It's the end of National Blog Posting Month, but I still find that I enjoy posting just about every day about inane things, so I might just keep this up. Plans for today include chilling out after work, doing some homework, and then high tailing it over to some restaurant that my sister swears is great (Roy's Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine in LA). We'll see how great it is later tonight... off to do some homework, and to play with her new GPS. :)
If your Vox Neighborhood had a potluck dinner tonight, what dish, drink or dessert would you bring?
If I was making something, I'd bring homemade shortbread cookies. If I was bringing something, I might bring Martini Rossi's Asti Sparkling Wine that my cousin had at her wedding. It has a sweet and lovely taste. Sometimes I wish I could drink more than maybe half a glass before wanting to take a nap because it's really quite tasty. I don't like alcoholic drinks that taste too much like, well, alcohol, and this definitely is on the sweet and bubbly side. Also, it's cheap! :)
I want pie, but pie is at the house and I did not take any pie back with me to the Kitty Abode™. Oh well :( Guess I can pick some up tomorrow, but I want pie with whipped cream right now.
It's probably for the best, anyway.
In other, non-pie related news, the boy went with me for lunch and then shopping for a brief time. Our mission? Finding him athletic shoes so that he can exercise with me! Mission accomplished, yay! :)
Also? Work was pretty great today, despite my being up at such an absurdly early time. I'm sleepy now, though.
My mom is always talking about how fruit trees are a pain (dealing with those awful fruit beetles, ugh, and too much fruit being ripe at the same time), and yet, wherever she goes, she wants to buy some kind of plant that we can eat. What is really amazing to me is how she is able to make them all live (unlike me) and that this banana tree actually bears fruit (sometimes you can plant something, but it may not actually fruit).
Here is my mother, admiring her flourishing tree:
And then a close up picture of all of the bananas:
Crazy!
I hope everyone had a pleasant holiday, whether you ate turkey, or a tofurky, caught an 84 lb turkey, or read a hairball story online. I have some photos that I can upload, but I'm very tired, especially since I have to be to work by 6:30a tomorrow. Hooray for working retail.
Goodnight.
For a full sit-down dinner with several guests, would you rather be the one cooking or do you prefer to just show up and eat?
I think that, in the time and place that I am in my life, I would rather show up to eat than to host a huge dinner. I'll help as much as I can, but I otherwise cannot fathom having a huge dinner like my parents put together tonight. If I wasn't eating, then someone else was, and so on and so forth.
What is your favorite dish on the Thanksgiving table?

Stuffing, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy all mixed together. Yum! Also, pumpkin pie drowning in fresh whipped cream.
Now I'm hungry :P Thanks, vox.
I went to Life Plaza again this past Monday to meet some friends and perused the snacks whereupon I found an interesting snack called Cheese Kamaboko made of (wait for it...) cod fish & cheese. So, of course I bought it :D Not that I'm a fan of cod fish & cheese together, but it looked like it might be good (key word being "looked"). It even had those little things at the ends of it like sausage links! So cute!
Anyway, I tried it and it was not that tasty, but the best part was tricking the boy into eating it, while not explaining what it was. :D
me: Oh! I forgot what I bought... oh yeah. Here honey, try it.
boy: What is it?
me: It's this thing with cheese in it.
boy: Okay. [insert me helping him unwrap it, then him biting into it]
boy: [strange look on face]
me: :D
boy: What is this?
me: Cod fish and cheese!
boy: D:
me: I told my friend I was going to have you try it without telling you what it was. :D
boy: Oh, there is going to be some revenge.
me: :D!
Hehe! :D Lots of giggling was involved, I might add.
Just now got home from dinner at a lovely restaurant in Monrovia (who even knew what existed in Monrovia?). The area reminded me of downtown (or perhaps it is also referred to as old town?) Claremont, with the little shops you could walk around and explore. I wonder if they also have a tapas restaurant like Viva Madrid here.
At any rate, the restaurant was called Devon and I guess it is a fusion restaurant, but I know for sure that it has the most unique creme brûlée that I have ever had. Creme brûlée with puff pastry? Delicious! There was also some kind of cooked oysters in a curry sauce, if you can believe it, and tasty little orange orbs that I later realized was caviar. Unexpectedly good. (If you go and read about the restaurant, it made me laugh how they called the copper lights "undulating" - I suppose that they were, but it's still amusing! :)
Hmm. I feel like my entries have become more like reviews of places and that's not how I mean for it to be. My day was otherwise quite boring - school, homework, a nap ;), laundry and loving up the kitty. :) There are only 6 weeks left in the semester, not counting the week of finals, so there is a lot of work to be done. Eek!
Off to do some reading, then bed. (Sorry if there are any typos, I'm on my phone and sometimes auto correct does not work in my favor!)
