Here are a few photos that I chose to upload from the trip and the boy and I took to the Sea Bluff late Christmas eve so we could spent time with his family at the beach house that they rented. It was beautiful. I'm still getting over the whole "sunny Christmas" bit after living in MN where it gets cold and stays cold for long periods of time. I miss those changes in weather, even though I appreciate the wonderful aspects of living in SoCal (picking fruits and veggies from the garden!). Somehow, I don't think that his parents really minded this warm Christmas, though (they are from MD). ;)
I want a companion to go to a coffee shop with me on this brisk California morning where we'd have a cupcake and wrap our cold hands around a hot mug.
Sadly, there is no one.
Went to dinner tonight at Roy's Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine and had an lovely time. The food was delicious! Driving to LA can be annoying, but the GPS really helped, especially when I made the wrong turns or exits. The female voice for the GPS would say "recalculating" which is probably about the best thing when I don't know where I'm going and it tells me how to get back to the freeway without me having to do anything at all. Sweet. :)
I found some disposable cameras when I was looking for my mother's camera the other day and I was thinking about how cool it would be just to grab them and take random photos to get developed. I haven't developed regular photos in so long that it seems novel to do so at this point. Also, there's no screen to worry about cracking within the first week of ownership :P
I'm tired and missing some things about life in Minnesota. Hi, friends in MN who are reading this. I probably miss you! :) Unless you are tallboything or mister teehee teehee, at which point I don't miss you at all, pfff.
(besides tests and things of that sort, that is)
drinking boba with cows on it many times over. there's this great chain here called lollicup that has lots of close locations. mm, boba.
eating at sushi shit. okay, so it really isn't meant to be sushi shit, but it really looks like it! it's sushi shiro!
seeing cute packaging like this translate into...
...a scary bear like this. i was horrified. seriously! he looks drunken or something, whereas the bear on the box looks adorable. if you look at the first picture again, you can see his claw, reaching out like he's trying to grab someone. :/
for Celina :)
this picture in itself doesn't look so bad, but just imagine that that is a stuffed animal head with a tiara... and nothing else. yep, just the head, chillin' out there, being creepy. it was a keychain/giant cell phone bling. very strange.
coming to a gas pump near you: a television screen? that's right, circled in that picture next to the boy's head is a teevee screen that i didn't really believe would be there when he told me about it. i wonder if they'll do it in mn, if they haven't already.
hi 433! i thought of you when i saw this! perhaps the numbers 4,3, and 3 show up together more often that i've seen, but i wanted to document it enough that i skulked up to it in the dark, snapped a picture, and then ran away quickly. now i just have to ponder its meaning. perhaps there are five uses for 433? ;)
on a totally separate note: it is really, really amusing to listen to people who are not native english speakers and those who are native english speakers try quite valiantly to pronounce "paraffin."
a couple of things about where we were at (life plaza):
• life plaza has the neatest asian/super kawaii things! want little soft footies for your stool that have cute little animal prints? or perhaps some peach lotion in a peach shaped container? then you've come to the right place! we ended up each leaving with a notepad and 3 pens a piece (0.38 pens? pshaw! who needs those when you can get 0.3 tip pens, or even 0.28?!).
• someone kept me from buying more school folders, and this someone will remain nameless *cough* ted *cough* because they were super cute and goodness knows that i need more cute things in my life! did i mention that life plaza has mugs with kitties on them, too? :O :D
• i'm sort of wired right now.
• if you go and at the small cafe attached be prepared to (1) receive more than one drink (the waiter didn't tell us that we were getting buy-one-get-one-free drinks, so we ended up with two coffees and two passion fruit juices), and, (2) be prepared to order rice and have the waiter tell you that they ran out of rice. i am totally not kidding here! how did an asian cafe that predominantly serves rice run out of rice? we don't know! they just did, and Ted ended up ordering noodles. i have to say that the waiter came back later with the offering of small pot of rice after noodles were ordered, though. :)
• you may now understand why i am wired. :o
i really miss my friends, but it's getting together like this and catching up that just feels really good. also, that's what having a new notepad with new pens is for. i suppose that it's time for me to collect some addresses since i'm pretty bad about keeping addresses all in one place!
tonight was lovely. i've been so busy that i haven't really been out and about, so driving out on such a crisp night in no traffic (it helps to leave the house at 11p!), listening to good music with a half a moon and well lit roads just made (and makes!) me happy.
